Sharing different perspectives and opinions on college campuses is nothing new — it is an encouraging sign that our campus community is made up of engaged citizens who understand the power of activism and civic engagement to affect change. Free speech is the cornerstone of our democracy and a core tenet that all universities and colleges must uphold, as we do here at Cal State LA.

This website serves as a key resource for understanding and exercising the right to free speech, providing guidance on engaging in meaningful dialogue while respecting the campus community.

Time, Place, & Manner

The California State University (CSU) Systemwide Time, Place, and Manner (TPM) Policy aims to balance the CSU’s educational mission with the protection of institutional integrity, academic freedom, and the rights of individuals.

Note: The pre-existing Cal State LA Time, Place, and Manner policy will continue to apply to union represented employees until the unions have completed bargaining. The Systemwide Time, Place, Manner policy will apply to all employees following the conclusion of bargaining.
